I recognize that it’s been a little while since you’ve received an update from me. I hope you’re doing well, and I want to remind you that if you need anything at all, don’t hesitate to reach out!
I hope you’ve heard by now that we’re planning to open the church back up for Sunday Morning Worship on June 7 at 10:15AM! We’re excited about that day, but we want you to be aware that things will not be completely back to normal. I’ve included a little Q&A in this update to help you know what to expect:
Should I feel obligated to attend worship on June 7 and following?
No. We are so thankful for the ability to livestream our services, and we plan to continue all our digital services for the foreseeable future. Don’t feel obligated or disobedient if you choose to remain at home during this time of uncertainty.
Who should consider not attending at this time?
While we would love for everyone to attend, and we will certainly welcome anyone who does, the current recommendations are that immunocompromised persons not gather at this time. Any gatherings that include these vulnerable populations uniquely puts them at risk. Obviously, if you are symptomatic, have a fever, or have been in close contact with someone who has tested positive for COVID-19, you should stay at home.
What is Sunday morning going to look like when we resume services?
Sunday morning is going to look very different for the foreseeable future. Please be understanding and adhere to the recommendations we post online and at all entrances. See below for answers to questions you may have specifically about Sunday morning services:
Will I be required to wear a mask? While we can’t require you to wear a mask, we strongly encourage you to do so. You may bring your own, or we will have masks available if you need one.
Will there be children’s programs and childcare? No. Childcare will not be provided, and all children and students must sit with their families.
Should I be worried about my young child’s behavior in the service? No! Since we can’t have a nursery right now, our congregation should expect and rejoice over a lot of playful, active noises from the youngest among us. After all, those noises are our future! We will continue to try to keep our service under an hour to help the little ones not get too restless.
Will there be a welcome time? Nope. Probably not a good idea to encourage shaking hands right now.
How will I know where to sit while avoiding close contact with another person or family? We are working on spacing the seating in our facility so that this is not an issue. We’ll have volunteers available to help you find a seat.
How will we handle the offering time? You will be able to deposit your offering at the sanctuary exits before and after the service.
How will we dismiss while avoiding close contact with one another? Right now, the plan is to dismiss by rows in sections of the sanctuary. We ask you to be patient and understanding as we stagger our dismissal.
When will Sunday School classes resume? For now, we continue to encourage our classes to use whatever digital means are available to stay connected. Social distancing recommendations do not make in-person gatherings feasible. We’ll let you know when we’re ready to take that step.
I hope that’s helpful to you. We’re certainly anxious to see you, but use your own judgement about when to return.
As always, this trip is better with you in it! Have a great week!
